Live Webinar and On Demand
10:00am – 5:00pm
Lauren M. Ahern, Counsel in the firm’s Tax, Trusts & Estates practice, will be on the faculty for a live webinar “Finnegan is DEAD! A Walk Through a Fictional Probate Case,” to be presented by the National Business Institute (NBI) on Friday, April 24, 2026, from 10:00am – 5:00pm.
This program uses the whimsical and fictional case of Finnegan O’Malley to walk through the major tasks of estate administration, from locating assets and authenticating the will to officially opening probate. It covers inventorying estate property, managing and evaluating creditor claims (even unusual ones), and meeting critical probate deadlines.
The course also explains tax-reporting obligations for both the decedent and the estate, along with strategies for handling disputes among beneficiaries. It blends humor with practical legal insight to prepare attorneys for real-world probate challenges.
Lauren focuses her practice in the areas of estate planning and administration, with a focus on high-net-worth individuals. Her work includes business succession and intergenerational planning, long term care planning, charitable gift planning and planned giving, the drafting of various estate planning documents including wills and trust arrangements, and counsel regarding estate and income tax saving techniques in the estate planning process. In the area of estate administration, Lauren represents fiduciaries and beneficiaries in probate matters, including the satisfaction of federal and state tax obligations, the preparation of petitions and supporting documents, and the settlement of complex estates via formal and informal methods, including probate litigation involving contested wills and fiduciary accountings.
